10.30 h-13.30 h / 15.30 h-18.30 h

If you visit Malaga, you’d really love to join this tour about Picasso. You will learn the more recent history of the city seen through the eyes of its most famous city-born, Picasso. A walking tour through Malaga city stopping on places related to his life. On them we will explain how this city influenced on him, why he loved her and why he left eventually. A pleasant walk that will discover a more personal Picasso and will make you understand why he used certain images repeatedly in his career.

What’s about

We will begin by introducing you to the social environment of the nineteenth-century Malaga bourgeoisie, in which Pablo Ruiz Picasso was to be born. Malaga, a rich and industrial city, would be reflected in the ceiling’s painting of the Teatro Cervantes, the starting point of this tour.

You will know the Italian origin of his surname and you will meet his family environment. A house full of women and a single male figure, his father Jose Ruiz Blasco, also a painter. You will discover the good fortune of the boy Pablo who, from a young age, was guided by his father to achieve success.

Along the tour we will show you, thanks to a book, Picasso’s works of art related to the Malaga themes that he learned in his youth and inherited especially from his father, such as his love for painting pigeons and bulls.

We will walk through places like the church where he was baptized, his nursery school, or the places he visited once a grown-up guy on his last visit to Malaga. Also we will see two museums in Malaga. The Fine Arts section of the Museo de Malaga, where to discover some hidden Picassos and understand the artistic environment of his time.

To finish our Picasso tour we will visit the MUPAM, the municipal museum where Picasso’s father worked. Here we will see his paintings and one that was in the family home, whose copy was the first artistic attempt of little Pablo.

An essential tour if you want to know the roots of the great Picasso. A great introduction to discover who Pablo was, what his origins were and why he became the most important artist of the 20th century. Join us! Our meeting point is at Plaza Jerónimo Cuervo, in front of Teatro Cervantes.
